The Nature of The Mind
Yoga teaches us to fully recognize and embrace all the elements and components of our existence at all levels. Among those many things to fully acknowledge is the mind.
Yoga brings full awareness as to what the nature of the mind is. And its very nature is to actually have many tapes playing inside, constantly talking to us, with a never-ending chattering. That inner chattering will actually never truly stop. It is important to be fully conscious of the nature of the mind because we can only work on those very things we acknowledge.
Yoga can help us incredibly in achieving peace of mind by recognizing first the very nature of constant flux the mind operates in. This is because upon doing this we can empower us to step on the driver sit of our mind and decide what seeds of thoughts we wish to sow in our conscious garden so that we get to reap the benefits of more positive thoughts which may bring us closer to a state of calmness and more optimal well-being. We can’t actually change the nature of the mind itself but we can actually control the content of the tape that is played in our minds. This is a very powerful realization because the Positive Thinking being one of the five points of Yoga, this state of positive mind can align our actions with those very thoughts we bring to our mind and those very thoughts can act as magnets to attract those very positive things we imagine or think of. Such is the essence and the power of the mind. The thing is that it works for positive thoughts as effectively as for negative ones. This is why we want to be in charge of the thoughts we play in the mind and make them all as positive and uplifting as possibly, because there is that much power in each one of our thoughts.
Ideally, given that the mind never stops, the optimal way to achieve peace of mind is actually practicing transcendental meditation. This is kind of meditation is called transcendental because the idea is to be so aware of the essence of the mind that we are able to sit still in meditation and transcend the constant chatter of the mind and the actual wheel of desire. In this way, we dive into the very essence of the self, into the spirit within, where we are no longer identifying with any of the thoughts being played but we can choose to simply step out of that noise into a place of feeling grounded, at one with the vertical divine connection within. Upon achieving this, we can transcend the mind and the body and experience true peace.
In the end, nothing will change in terms of the mind itself but if you choose to try any of the two steps above, everything can change for the better in terms of the quality of your life. You will benefit by increasing your own inner peace and from that place of feeling more quiet and in control inside all of a sudden very positive and constructive things can happen. Life and existence can become not just a more bearable but a much more magical and fascinating journey because you are no longer tossed at random by the arbitrary course of your thoughts but you are choosing exactly which of those thoughts you wish to play and which ones to ignore completely, replace, discard or simply transcend altogether. The fun thing is that you get to choose. Make the very best use of that inner power. Become the very creator of your own inner peace!
