Making Sweet Lemonade

Making Sweet Lemonade

Yoga teaches us to open our hearts and embrace all which comes to us as an opportunity to fertilize our growth and generate sweet fruitful flavors even out of the most sour and bitter experiences of our lives.

The ‘practice’ give us the tools to learn to read reality with positive lenses so that even the most difficult and bitter of situations can be transformed into something positive and enriching. The analogy of using lemons to represent anything which may be interpreted as being bitter or sour in our lives in terms of: frustrations, anger, fear or any negative experiences and thoughts is one which can assist us in visualizing how we can always choose to bring about something good out of something perceived as being negative or bad.

On of the techniques we use to release tension is to physically tense. The following visualization in combination with the tensing component allows us to squeeze with our hands all our present frustration – represented in two imaginary lemons held in our hands – out of those juicy lemons; as we picture those sour fruits generating sweet lemonade. This very simple yet powerful tool allows us to transform something we perceive as negative into a positive thing; and in so doing, it leaves us feeling relieved and empowered knowing that all can be used for our growth and transformed into something sweet at our will.

We must challenge ourselves to step in and next time we are feeling negative emotions or experiencing something which we may label as ‘not good’ we can apply this useful and practical technique and stretch our arms out, hold our two lemons in our hands and visualize what they represent and use the physical force of squeezing our fists so tight that we may release all our frustration and negativity until we are able to discharge all the bitterness and only be left with ‘the sweetness’  to feed our minds and spirits with with the positive side of  a negative perception.

Next time you are feeling anger, frustration or any negative emotions remember you can always make some sweet lemonade!
